Two accused of fraud in the National Lottery will be released from jail

To William Lizandro Rosario Ortiz and Eladio Batista Valerio, who are in pretrial detention at the Najayo-Hombres Rehabilitation Center and the only one of the 11 accused of the fraud of the National lottery who are in jail, the measure of coercion was varied this Thursday.

The Second Collegiate Court of the National District accepted the cessation of preventive detention, but imposed domiciliary detention on them and prevented them from leaving the country.

William Lizandro Rosario Ortiz and Eladio Batista Valerio have been held in Najayo for 18 months for fraud of more than 500 million in the National lotterywhich involves the former administrator of that entity, Luis Maisichell Dicent, and eight other accused.

The alleged network was baptized by the Public Ministry Operation 13 for the bolus of the scam in the draw on May 1, 2021.

Last December, Dicent’s preventive detention was also changed due to house arrest. The three accused They are the main ones in the alleged plot that affected the Lottery seats and the State.

The maximum time established by the criminal procedure law for complex cases is 18 months in prison.

The ruling of the Second Collegiate Court will be read in its entirety on January 18.

In addition to Dicent, Rosario Ortiz and Batista Valerio, the defendants in the case are Valentina Rosario Cruz, Jonathan Brea, Carlos Berigüete and Felipe Santiago Toribio.

Also Edison Manuel Perdomo Peralta, Miguel Mejía and Rafael Mesa. Leónidas Medina Arvelo (Nazareth) is implicated in the case as a fugitive.

Substantive trial continues

On the afternoon of this Thursday, the substantive judgment of all the accused in Operation 13, with the exception of Nazaret, the one designated as the operational arm of the network and who has not been able to be detained by the authorities and his whereabouts are unknown.
