Emiliano Rolón, the next State Attorney General, who will take office on March 9, analyzed what happened with the prosecutor Stella Mary Cano, who held meetings with Colorado politicians who set up a case to force the resignation of Mario Ferreiro from the municipal administration at the end of 2019.
“I have not yet internalized myself at all, they are not yet matters of my competence, I only took office in March, this is still relevant to the current administration,” he said.
However, he commented that, in fact, his current mission is to verify these events in order to make the necessary corrective measures in the exercise of his function.
“The idea of preparing projects for this stage was due to the need to know internally the negative and positive aspects and that is where we are. It must be clearly distinguished that until March 8, the position is held by another person. That day he gives up the pre-eminence to another administration, from that moment, all the responsibility will fall on me, ”he said.
He maintained that the actions and temperaments to assume are in the law itself. That is, if there is a criminal connotation or if there are only misdemeanors, these are issues that must be discriminated one by one,
“We promised to comply with the laws and that is where we are. Like any large institution, there are good people who are the majority. but unfortunately the negative examples decompose the institution. We have well-founded expectations that, based on correct leadership, we can move towards the institutional objectives”, he affirmed.
IMPUNITY
Finally, he maintained that crime, sanctions, etc., are human ills that never have an exact answer.
“The idea is that these levels can be controlled institutionally and I think they are the limits of human objectivity. It is very difficult to give an absolute promise of release from crimes, to generate an absolute response of impunity, do not forget that we work on legal evidence and on many occasions we probably have the intuition, perception or belief that a conduct has evidence clear and punctual but they are not like that. The legal society demands that kind of attitude, approaching relevant cases, some with alternative solutions, others with the need to establish an exemplary sentence. They are diverse situations, I promise that in my administration, these limits will be respected and they will be the objects of maximum attention, ”he said.

A journalistic investigation, by the fellow media outlet Abc Color, revealed that the prosecutor Stella Mary Cano met with Colorado politicians, in the days prior to the accusation that she established against Mario Ferreiro.
In the conversations, it is shown that Camilo Soares, the main promoter of the complaint against Ferreiro, planned the plan with Arnaldo Samaniego, national deputy for the ANR and former mayor of Asunción (he lost his re-election against Ferreiro in 2015) and Dani Centurión, candidate to mayor of Asunción for the ruling party (he finally lost). Calls also appear with Wladimir Woitas and Silvia Sapriza, husband and assistant to prosecutor Cano respectively.
