The resigning Minister of the Interiorr, Avelino Guillentold in an interview with La República the details about his resignation from office and stated that he was waiting for the head of state, Pedro Castillo, to support his position regarding the disagreements with the General Commander of the National Police, Javier Gallardo Mendoza.
“He hoped that the President of the Republic would support his minister, but he preferred to remain silent and put himself in profile. That is a thunderous silence, because it says a lot. He has expressed a position of clear and direct support for the Commander General of the Police, ”said Guillén.
The former Supreme Prosecutor also commented on the discrepancies he had with Commander Gallardo, and assured that Peru cannot afford to let its best elements go.
“In the case of the retirement passes, I was arranging for the departure of officers who, in my opinion, were valuable. The Police cannot afford to part with their best cadres, which have been formed over the years. It’s like a soccer team, you can’t part with a top-level soccer player on a whim, code war, rings or other strange situations, ”he said.
As recalled, Avelino Guillén submitted his letter of resignation last Friday, January 28, after President Pedro Castillo remained silent regarding the request to retire the Commander General of the Police, Javier Gallardo.
The head of state had offered to evaluate Gallardo’s dismissal. Nevertheless, let time pass without touching the subject againwhich meant that urgent measures could not be taken in the main operational units of the Police, such as the High Complexity Crime Investigations Division (Diviac).
The complete interview will appear this Sunday the 30th in the printed edition.
