Residential rent prices close 2022 with an increase of 8.25%, says FGV

The Residential Rent Variation Index (Ivar), calculated by the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV), accumulated an increase of 8.25% in 2022. In the previous year, the indicator had closed with deflation (fall in prices) of 0.61 %.Residential rent prices close 2022 with an increase of 8.25%, says FGV

The index is calculated based on prices collected in the cities of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and Porto Alegre.

Belo Horizonte had the highest inflation rate in 2022, with a rate of 11.31%, after registering a price increase of 1.46% in 2021 (increase of 9.85 percentage points). São Paulo appears next, with a rate of 7.80%, after a deflation of 1.83% (increase of 9.63 percentage points) in the previous year.

In Rio de Janeiro, rents were 8.34% more expensive in 2022, after inflation of 0.46% in the previous year (up 7.88 percentage points). Porto Alegre went from a deflation of 0.35% in 2021 to an inflation of 7.15% in 2022 (increase of 7.5 percentage points).

In December 2022, the Ivar had a deflation of 1.19%, more intense than the 0.36% price drop in the previous month. The four capitals had deflation in the month: São Paulo (-1.06%), Rio de Janeiro (-2.41%), Belo Horizonte (-0.46%) and Porto Alegre (-1.09%).
