In her first message as president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), Norma Lucía Piña Hernández affirmed that she does not see herself as victorious or triumphant, but rather committed to the majority of the ministers who honored her with their vote.

She thanked those who have always believed in the cause of women and have not tired of cornering the patriarchal culture, with them, she said, she has a commitment to work every day for a more just, egalitarian society without gender violence.

an arduous process

He clarified that his choice was not easy, but product of an arduous process within this collegiate, a mirror of the national and, consequently, institutional complexity that we are experiencing; voters and candidates, we analyze very different scenarios based on our convictions and institutional priorities, we go from seeking to be elected to deciding who to elect; the panorama has been uncertain until the last moment; uncertainty is a presupposition of freedom, we dialogue, we disagree, we build and, finally, we decide.

For this reason, he highlighted the fact that his plenary colleagues have made the decision to break with the glass roofwhich, she assured, makes her feel accompanied, supported and agreed.

Piña recalled that he has more than 34 years of judicial career and that now, at the head of the SCJN, he will work with conviction, dedication, passion and honesty.

As a minister, she consistently voted for the decriminalization of abortion and for the recreational use of marijuana.

Among the latest resolutions in which he participated is the one on informal preventive detention, where he joined the majority in favor of eliminating this precautionary measure for tax crimes, and also on the issue of the deployment of the military to support public security work. , where he agreed to dismiss the challenge for procedural issues.

At the end of her speech, she promised that, as the first president of the SCJN, she will follow the path set out by the Constitution and democracy.

I understand that, in addition, it is about shared convictions. That define our decisions as judges and judges. The assignment is complex, but I know that I will have that common ground. The route is viable. We will arrive at a good porthe concluded.
