Minister Sánchez on Avelino Guillén: We must put citizen security beyond names

The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, , denied having talked with the President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, about the possibility of accepting the resignation of Avelino Guillén at the head of the Interior sector.

However, he highlighted the need to work for citizen security beyond the names or controversies that may exist in the National Police.

“If this decision (of Avelino Guillén’s resignation) is confirmed, it is up to the president to evaluate, I believe, to continue putting forward beyond names or encounters or disagreements, this great priority of citizen security”, commented this morning in statements to RPP.

Roberto Sánchez said he had not talked to Pedro Castillo about Avelino Guillén. (PRP)

“I am sure that the professionals are respected for their trajectory, there may have been encounters or disagreements, but the attention of the people prevails”, he added.

Sánchez specified that President Castillo has been in Ancash since Friday and that other ministers, as well as him, are working in various regions, which has prevented Guillén’s situation from being evaluated.

This Friday, January 28, it was learned that the Minister of the Interior, Avelino Guillén, presented his letter of resignation to Pedro Castillo’s office after weeks of controversy with the PNP’s general commander, Javier Gallardo.

The latter presented a list of appointments to senior police positions that did not obtain the support of Avelino Guillén, who asked that another proposal be presented that has the support of the subcommanders of the PNP. This was not carried out and the minister proposed an alternative list, in addition to asking the president to retire Gallardo.

Despite these disagreements in the Interior sector, Pedro Castillo has not spoken out and has not signed any of the proposals, so the police directorates remain without the corresponding replacement of their owners.
