Since the afternoon of Sunday, December 25, the National Meteorological Service (SMN) warned about the drop in temperatures and the possibility of snowfall in high areas of the Valley of Mexico.
Therefore, the Nevado de Toluca in the State of Mexico was one of the first places where snow began to fall, which attracted dozens of tourists to witness the natural spectacle.
In the case of Mexico City, the sleet fell shortly after 5:00 p.m. this Sunday, December 25 from the town of Santo Tomás in the area known as the “Y”, as well as in the places of Las Cruces, La Cantimplora, El Capulín, Pico del Águila and Parres el Guarda in the Tlalpan mayor’s office
Through a statement, the demarcation authorities highlighted that in some areas the sleet reached a thickness of up to three centimeters on the surface.
Also, the authorities warned that this natural phenomenon, although it is attractive to many people, also represents some risks, for example, slippery ground and low temperatures can cause diseases.
For the inhabitants of these areas, the Tlalpan mayor’s office asked to take into consideration some health recommendations.
“Do not use stoves or light bonfires inside your homes, in order to avoid poisoning and even loss of life, in addition to covering yourself with several layers of clothing.” is read in the document.
What is expected for this Monday?
The meteorological bulletin of the Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection of Mexico City indicates that for this Monday cloudy skies are expected for most of the day with a maximum of 19 degrees for 3:00 p.m. and later it will drop to eight degrees towards midnight.
