There is little progress in the renovation of the historic center, which involves culture, art and heritage
The Government has started infrastructure and development works with which it seeks to generate an impact of modernization and progress in the province of Santiago and other towns of Cibao.
The initiatives are part of the Santiago 2025 project, launched by President Luis Abinader, and are made up of a series of works that cover the environmental, social and road aspects and that seek to transform this province. The investment has been calculated at more than 42 billion pesos. To date, some are in the development process, others are slow, and some seem stagnant.
Dynamism
In terms of transportation, the Government, through the Urban Mobility Projects Office, is advancing in the construction of a cable car and a monorail. According to the projections, the cable car will be inaugurated in the last quarter of next year 2023. Meanwhile, with respect to the monorail, it is expected to begin operating in the year 2024. Among the benefits of the implementation of the Integrated System of Public Transport is a greater coverage of the service to satisfy the demand, saving time, and the integration of the rate, which is expected to have a positive impact on the quality of life of the citizens of the North region.
The Integrated Transport System of Santiago includes the physical, technological and tariff integration of the different means of public transport, for the benefit of users and the environment. It will be made up of the cable car, a monorail, OMSA electric bus feeder routes and a bike lane. The investment in this work is 33 billion pesos, 25 billion that will be allocated to the physical structure of the work and another eight million in the construction of the monorails and all the technical part of the project. In its first section, it will cover 8.7 kilometers of the 15 kilometers that the complete project will have, which will begin in Cienfuegos and end in the Peking neighborhood.
Through the Ministry of Public Works and Communications, it was said that the Government will carry out a set of infrastructure works in Santiago, for an amount greater than 10,000 million pesos, with which they guarantee to change the geographical appearance and that will positively impact each section of the city. The intervention that takes place on the Duarte highway and covers from kilometer 9 in Santo Domingo, until it ends in Montecristi, has an extension of 230 kilometers, it will impact Santiago in a positive way, because it is a city that due to its development looks increasingly congested.
One of the most important sanitation projects is carried out through the National Institute of Drinking Water and Sewerage (Inapa) and it is the Gurabo stream, the progress of which was recently presented by the director of this entity, Wellington Arnaud, to the directors of the institutions that make up Compromiso Santiago. It will have an extension of approximately 5.2 kilometers, from Estrella Sadhalá avenue to the confluence with the Yaque del Norte river.
Progress is also being made with the construction of new wastewater pumping stations, repair of siphons, construction of a water treatment plant and new collectors, which are carried out through the Santiago Aqueduct and Sewerage Corporation (Coraasan).
On December 8, President Luis Abinader delivered a second stage of 40 new apartments of the La Barranquita Mi Vivienda Plan, which this year completes a total of 90 units delivered in this project. While in the Los Salados apartment project, on June 3 of this year, the president delivered 60 apartments to the same number of families.
Many works started, few advanced
In the Espaillat province, roads are being built, such as the highway that connects the municipalities of Moca and Jamao al Norte, although it is said that they are behind schedule. In Puerto Plata, investments are made to boost tourism, which can be seen in the large number of cruise passengers arriving through the Taino Bay and Amber Cove ports. In La Vega, an extension of the UASD, a bridge, and the construction of the market that was affected by a large fire, is still underway. While on the Northwest Line, work is being done on the adaptation and expansion of the Port of Manzanillo. All to be inaugurated between 2023 and 2024.
