The national head of Reniec, Carmen Velarde, said that the electoral system adheres to the deadlines established in the regulations for the development of electoral processes that involve not only the National Election Jury and the ONPE, but also political parties and citizens. .
Velarde also said that in the elaboration of the Electoral Register the citizenry also has participation, since by updating their identity by renewing the DNI or registering deaths they contribute to having an updated database for the elections.
For his part, The president of the JNE, Jorge Luis Salas Arenas, said that the institution is open to the early elections: “If Congress so orders, we will execute it.” The shortest period of time to organize new elections is one year, that is, December 2023.
He also advised that “we are going to get a better representation by holding primaries. It will allow citizen participation to generate closeness with political organizations and their candidates.”
At another time, Congressman Alejandro Aguinaga asked if the electoral authorities are willing to step aside, despite the fact that they have nothing to do with the popular elections, to which Salas responded emphatically:
“Some congressmen want to turn this presentation into an opportunity to ask personal questions. I don’t run from them, because I don’t owe anything. I am protected by the law, ”he said.
Piero Corvetto He spoke about the technical criteria of the constitutional reform for the advancement of general elections. He highlighted that “in these elections we would have up to 3 electoral days: the primaries established in the 2019 reforms and which, by legal mandate, we are required to do.”
