Father Edwing Román calls Karen Chavarría, Monsignor Álvarez's executioner, a "puppet"

Father Edwing Román, one of the religious voices critical of the Nicaraguan regime, regretted the accusation of impairment and false news against Monsignor Rolando Alvarez, Bishop of the Diocese of Matagalpa.

The ex-parish priest of the San Miguel Arcángel de Masaya church admired the restraint with which the priest faced the preliminary hearing imposed by the Ortega dictatorship. “His look at him and his high forehead reflect the dignity of Nicaraguans,” he said.

However, the priest called the sanctioned judge a “puppet for hire” Karen Vanessa Chavarria, of the Ninth Criminal Trial District Court of Managua, who will be in charge of the criminal and political process against Monsignor Rolando Álvarez.

“(…) covers her face so as not to be identified (…) Only for their misdeeds do they use face masks,” said Román, who added that like other judicial officers of the Nicaraguan regime, “Suddenly we see her —Karen Chavarría— asking for asylum.”

Edwing Román, along with Monsignor Silvio Báez —both exiled in the United States— are in the group of religious who have not ceased to demand the release of the also apostolic administrator of the Estelí Diocese and that of all the priests and laymen imprisoned, linked to the Catholic Church.

His sympathy with the Daniel Ortega regime has been evidenced by photographs where he has been seen carrying the red and black flag and raising the flag of the party in power in his demonstrations.
