“We are not going to allow air operations until they solve us”: Leaders of Bahía Solano closed the airport

The operation at the José Celestino Mutis airport in Bahía Solano, has been closed due to the protest by leaders and inhabitants of the township El Valle, who demand a retaining wall to protect their homes.

During this year, the river has carried away more than 40 houses, including 10 in the last three weeks, as a result of the winter wave.

That is why they are not going to allow air operations until the national government provides a solution to their need.

“We are here because we need the retaining wall to be built, we have already lost 93 houses and we are not going to allow it to continue,” said a protester.

They state that they have been affected for a long time and for now there are no solutions, while the flood takes everything in its path.

For its part, the municipal administration in Bahía Solano has already submitted a project to the National Risk Unit; They are awaiting approval and allocation of resources.

However, the community states that it will not give up until the National Government responds.

This Wednesday they already had to cancel three flights from Medellín to Chocó due to said protest.

For this Thursday, in the Valley, national authorities are waiting for a commitment to be signed.
