The Ombudsman asked the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, to suspend the Single National Test (PUN) of teachers that will be held today and tomorrow, according to the programming of the Ministry of Education (Minedu). In a statement, the entity indicated that there are no guarantees to carry out said examination given the resignation of the head of Minedu and the “uncertainty” that the sector faces after the recent events caused by Pedro Castillo when he tried to carry out a coup.
In addition, he recalled that last year, the test was suspended due to the filtering of the answers. They added that “there is no instance of control of the processes of the Education sector of higher hierarchy and responsibility.” However, these are not the only problems that the PUN goes through.
Less requirements
The Ombudsman also warned of important requirements that were removed from the test.
“The Ombudsman’s Office expresses its concern about the type of qualification that has been approved for the 2022 Public Teaching Career entrance contest, because it allows teachers to pass the Single National Test (PUN) without satisfactorily passing the evaluations of reading comprehension and logical reasoning”, they reported.
And it is that in July of this year, it was reported from the Minedu that this exam would not have the two usual subtests of mathematical reasoning and communication, but only one of “general skills” that would consist of 25 questions and would not need a minimum score. . In addition, the maximum score for the personal interview was also reduced. Clearly, this situation only benefited Fenatep, the union of Castillo teachers who do not agree with meritocracy.
The Ombudsman urged the Minedu to modify the norm that currently governs the test and recalled that the Constitutional Court “has indicated the establishment of objective criteria for entry and permanence in the teaching activity.”
The Unitary Union of Education Workers of Peru (SUTEP) is against these new rules, despite that so far, they have not responded to their complaints.
“We demand guarantees so that the entrance test to the Public Teaching Career is transparent. The current situation of the Minedu generates uncertainty in the teaching profession. Even more so when the inept Rosendo Serna only endorsed impunity for those who leaked last year’s,” said Sutep.
Regarding the issue, the former Minister of Education, Idel Vexler, told this newspaper that the test should not be suspended because, with this, it would be three years without taking the test.
“The evaluation should not be suspended. With the issue of the pandemic and the leak of the test, almost 50% of teachers are out of the race and that is not right because the process is precarious. I ask for social vigilance, I invite the Ombudsman to supervise because, because of Fenatep, they cannot stop these teachers from taking an exam that they have been waiting for three years,” Vexler advised.
I knew that
- Last year, teachers at the national level denounced the leaking of the answers to the Single National Test.
- As pointed out by Professor Willy Quijano Aslla on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at 2 in the morning, he had access to a PDF file that contained pages of the solved test.
- This teacher was not the only complainant. The case reached the Prosecutor’s Office and was even one of the reasons why the former Minister of Education, Carlos Gallardo, was censured.
