The National Prosecutor Patricia Benavidesinvestigate if the dictator Pedro Castillo ordered his arrest after announcing the illegal dissolution of Congress and the reorganization of the justice system.
Peru21 learned that the inquiry seeks to clarify whether the National Intelligence Directorate (DINI) received this order from Castillo, who is being held for committing the crime of rebellion.
The former president announced a coup d’état yesterday but did not have the support of any public institution, including the Armed Forces that submitted to the constitutional exit executed by Parliament. The vacant position was assumed by Vice President Dina Boluarte.
The Chotano professor coup leader faces a sentence of 20 years in prison, stipulated in article 346 of the Penal Code.
