SHOA dismisses tsunami for Chile after earthquake near Arica: an earthquake was also registered in the central zone

This morning, two earthquakes were felt in the Arica and Parinacota region, prompting monitoring by the Navy Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service (SHOA), who ruled out a tsunami alert for the Chilean coast.

According to the National Emergency Office (Onemi), the first telluric movement was of a magnitude of 5.0, with an epicenter 116 km northeast of Arica.

Meanwhile, the second was registered in the vicinity of the border between Chile, Peru and Bolivia. Onemi indicated that the earthquake had a magnitude of 4.8 with an epicenter 20 km southwest of Visviri.

Valparaiso

On the morning of this Saturday, a less intense earthquake was also registered between the regions of Valparaíso and Metropolitana.

The National Seismological Center of the University of Chile specified that the telluric movement had a magnitude of 4.7 with an epicenter 31.73 km northwest of Valparaíso.
