The commanding general of the United States Southern Command (Southcom), Laura Richardson arrived in the country this Monday.
The information was released by the official Southcom account on twitter, which posted a message detailing that the arrival is taking place to visit the humanitarian mission of vessel USNS Comfort Hospitalwhich is in the country to provide completely free medical care in various parts of the country.
American doctors, together with Dominican counterparts, will offer free general evaluations, dental examinations and dental treatments, optometry, pediatrics, gynecology, dermatology and physical therapy services to low-income people, in addition to having tomography services.
They will also provide cardiovascular care, glucose tests, cardiographs, blood donation and minor surgeries.
The Ministry of Public health of the Dominican Republic reported that it met with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to coordinate the “last details” regarding the arrival of the ship.
The services will be offered in the province of Azua (south of the country) to benefit the “most vulnerable sectors,” the agency said in a statement.
The minor surgeries will be carried out on the ship, the note specified, adding that these patients will be followed up through the provincial health directorates
