Political commentator Jaime Arellano and former presidential candidate Noel Vidaurre are two opponents who were subjected to impeachment trials and are under house arrest. Both were taken as political prisoners by the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo. They have been confined to their homes to silence their voices.
At the end of August 2022, the health of commentator Jaime Arellano deteriorated more every day, his relatives denounced. The prisoner of conscience presented constant high blood pressure problems and they feared that he would suffer a heart attack due to his condition. The prisoner of conscience suffers from hypertension and obesity problems.

The regime has kept Arellano under house arrest since June 24, 2021 when he was arrested. In July of this year it was reported that the prisoner of conscience could not walk and was lying down due to the severe headaches and constant dizziness that he presents.
Arellano was sentenced by the Sandinista justice to 13 years in prison for the alleged crimes of conspiracy to undermine the national integrity and propagation of false news, through information and communication technology.
Noel Vidaurre was arrested the same day as Arellano, after he was “interviewed” at the Public Ministry (MP) where he was reportedly threatened to apply “Law 1055” or Sovereignty Law. He was tried and sentenced to nine years in prison.
Vidaurre intended to compete as a candidate for the Presidency of Nicaragua in the elections on November 7, 2021, where Daniel Ortega won for the fourth consecutive term and the second led by his wife Rosario Murillo.
