The Plenary of Congress resumed its session, and after a long debate, finally rejected President Pedro Castillo’s request for permission to travel to Mexico to attend the Pacific Alliance Summit, with 51 votes in favor, 58 votes against, and 2 abstentions.
In a second vote, Congress approved the authorization for the president to travel to Chile on November 28 and 29, 2022 with 57 in favor, 35 against, and 2 abstentions.
As is known, Castillo plans to travel to Mexico and Chile, between November 24 and 29, in order to participate in the XVII Presidential Summit of the Pacific Alliance, which will take place in Mexico City.
At the meeting, the transfer to Peru of the Pro Tempore Presidency of this regional integration initiative will take place.
“The Pacific Alliance is a regional integration mechanism, promoted by Peru since its origins in 2011, whose objectives are: to build a deep integration area to progressively move towards the free movement of goods, services, capital and people; turn it into a projection platform to the world”, reads a letter addressed to José Williams, head of Parliament.
“The agenda of the President of the Republic begins on November 24 with a private meeting between the presidents of the United Mexican States and the Republic of Peru. The next day, November 25, a private breakfast of the presidents of the Pacific Alliance has been planned, ”he added.
