After the preliminary hearing, of the “Panama Papers” case, regarding a foreign citizen, accused of the alleged commission of the crime of money laundering, this November 15, the Third Liquidating Court of Criminal Cases of the First Judicial Circuit of Panama the term of law was accepted to qualify the summary.
During the hearing, the defendant’s private technical defense attorney presented two incidents, one of prescription of the criminal action and the other of double judging, which will be resolved in the order of qualification of the summary, as provided by the court.
It should be noted that in this case the court had decreed the procedural rupture with respect to this foreign citizen, because he had to be notified through international judicial assistance.
In this act of hearing, the Public Ministry, represented by the prosecutor Octavio Nicolau, requested in his argument that the defendant be called to trial, considering that there is evidence that links him to the crime under investigation, while the private technical defender Moisés Barlett requested to the court the definitive dismissal of his client.
In this same case, the Third Settlement Court for Criminal Cases postponed to the alternate date of December 6 to 9, 2022, the ordinary hearing set for this Tuesday, November 15, for the other 32 citizens who were already called to trial for the alleged commission of the crime against the economic order, in the form of money laundering, since the evidence order is in the process of appeal before the Superior Court of Settlement of Criminal Cases.
The investigation of this criminal process arose in 2016, after the alleged leak of documents from a law firm.
