According to official information, the head of state visited the areas of Ventanilla, Ancón, Santa Rosa and Chancay, it is estimated that the oil spill affected 18,000 m² of sea off the Peruvian coast.
According to the multinational Repsol, this hydrocarbon spill was the product of strong waves recorded on the Peruvian coast after the eruption of an underwater volcano in Tonga, Oceania.
In his turn, the Minister of the Environment, Rubén Ramírez, met with representatives of Repsol and pointed out that the spill has been approximately 6,000 barrels of oil, so the fine that the refinery could receive The Pampilla it would be up to 30,000 UIT, equivalent to S/138 million.
According to the National Service of Protected Areas by the State (Sernanp), the oil spill affected the National Reserve System of Guano Islands, Islets and Puntas-Islotes de Pescadores and the Reserved Zone of Ancón.

However, the communications manager of the Repsol company, Tine van den Wall Bake Rodríguez, stated that the company “did not cause the ecological disaster”. He added that they could not point to those responsible for this fact.
