Mandatory elections in Udelar: when are they and where do you vote?

Mandatory elections in Udelar: when are they and where do you vote?

More than 140,000 students, graduates and teachers of the University of the Republic (Udelar) are called to the polls to elect, next Wednesday, November 16, the members of the councils of each faculty. The election (mandatory and that had been postponed due to the covid-19 pandemic) applies to all services except for the new Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Information and Communication.

The Circuits will open their doors at 8 in the morning and close at 7:00 p.m. In any case, that day classes will not be taught in all those faculties where the vote is held.

Students who do not vote and do not justify their absence will not be able to take exams for two consecutive periods. In the case of teachers and graduates, they will be fined five Readjustable Units (about $ 7,500).

Who votes and where?

The Electoral Court updated the list of eligible to vote. Find out in this link where you have to pay.

In general terms, students, teachers and graduates of careers with no less than two years of the aforementioned faculties vote. Qualified students are those who have entered this year and who have passed a course or taken an exam during the years 2020, 2021 and until the closing date of the registers, which was last August 16.

Meanwhile, the teachers authorized to integrate the registers are those —effective or interim— who have one year or more of continuous or discontinuous seniority at the date of the election.

At the level of graduates, those who appear in the records with a title issued by Udelar must vote.

If a person belongs to more than one order (for example, a graduate who works as a teacher in a college), there is an order of priority to follow: student, teacher and graduate. Therefore, in the mentioned example, you should vote as a teacher.

Likewise, the election is by faculty, therefore the person must vote in all the faculties in which they integrate any of the orders.
Those over 75 years of age are exempt from voting.

What is voted?

The councils of the faculties are the directive and administrative body of each university service. They are made up of five teachers, three graduates, three students and are chaired by the dean (who is not elected through these elections, since they are not associated with the elections that correspond to the deans of each faculty).

Here we present the lists enabled in each of the university services:
