The general director of the Santo Domingo Aqueduct and Sewerage Corporation (CAASD), Felipe Suberví (Fellito), reported the closure of the Duey System, as a result of a failure caused by the flooding of the haina river.
The fault affected the supply of drinking water in the municipalities of Los Alcarrizos, Pedro Brand and the municipal district Pantoja.
According to the official, it is a “complex situation”, since the solution involves relocating the pipes to divert the line and remove it from the tributary.
“The rise of haina river it undermined the land, affecting a section of pipe of approximately 50 meters, leaving it in the air, for which a diversion of the line will be made to restore the service”, explained Suberví.
He said that due to the magnitude of the breakdown, heavy equipment and all the necessary technical personnel have been transferred to solve the problem as soon as possible.
“What happened here was that the waters dragged the foundations, leaving the pipes uncovered and without material, causing the pipes to fail at the joints,” lamented in a press release.

He assured that the institution’s staff works at full capacity to correct the fault that has occurred and restore the service of drinking waterhowever, clarified that these works can take several days.
“In principle, access to the breakdown point was very difficult, according to what we have evaluated, these tasks could take several days, for which we apologize to the population and appeal to their understanding and patience. We work full time to be able to continue providing the usual service”, Suberví emphasized.
The CEO of the CAASD added that the tank trucks will be supplying drinking water to the affected sectors.
Affected sectors
The sectors affected in the case of the municipality of Los Alcarrizos are: Paradise; New Horizon; Nazarene; invited; New town; Villa Los Peloteros; Public Works; New Dawn; Landia, in the southern and lower part; Lebron neighborhood; The Liberator; April 24; Arenoso, at kilometer 14 and the residential El Madrigal.
While in the municipality of Pedro Brand the supply of drinking water in the neighborhoods: La Lomita, Los Cocos, Lomas Lindas, Eduardo Brito and at kilometer 32 of the Duarte Highway.
Meanwhile, in the municipal district of Pantoja those affected are: Don Gregorio, partially; Pantoja I; the neighborhoods El Progreso, San Miguel, Los Platanitos, Los Militares, Los Peralejos, Palma Real, La Redención, Villa Morada, Brisas del Norte, Las Flores de Pantoja and Villa Claudia.
Similarly, residential Carmen Maria, Villa Graciela. Royal City I and II; Sunflowers I and II; residential Altos de Colombia, Pablo Mella City (Bisonó); and the sectors close to República de Colombia and Monumental avenues.
