Ortega dismisses Álvaro Baltodano and adds charges to Michael Campbell

The regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo dealt a blow to retired General Álvaro Baltodano Cantarero. The dictatorship decided to cancel his appointment as delegate minister for investments and facilitation of foreign trade, a position he held from the defunct PRONicaragua Investment Agency, according to presidential agreement No. 153-2022, published in the Official Gazette No. 204 this Monday, October 31, 2022.

Baltodano has served in that position since 2017, the year PRONicaragua was founded, and worked hand in hand with Laureano Ortega Murillo, son of the dictatorial couple, and presidential adviser for investments, a position that Ortega invented to give prominence to his offspring.

Michael René Campbell Hooker was appointed as secretary of the Secretariat for the promotion of investments and exports, an entity under the command of the Presidency of the Republic. According to presidential agreement No. 154-2022, Campbell Hooker’s new position will be unpaid because the Ortega supporter already holds two other positions in the Ortega regime as advisory minister to the President of the Republic for international relations and the Greater Caribbean. ; also ambassador on special mission.

Campbell is the son of Francisco Campbell, Ortega’s ambassador to the United States, and has held other diplomatic positions in the Ortega-Murillo administration. On October 26, the Ortega official had his appointment canceled as ambassador to the Government of the Republic of India based in the city of New Delhi; he also as alternate representative of Nicaragua, with the rank of ambassador, before the Organization of American States (OAS), a position he held since the denunciation of Arturo McFields, the former rebel ambassador of the dictatorship.

This dismissal of Campbell before the OAS occurred six months after the dictatorship’s decision to break relations with the organization, which it announced after ordering the police assault on the organization’s headquarters in Managua.
