The state-owned company Ancap issued a statement in which it states that the “measures are related to the resolution adopted by the Ancap board of directors to replace the supply service contract for civil and commercial aircraft signed in June 2014 and go on to rent to the operator of the “C/C Carlos Curbelo” International Airport, Laguna del Sauce, the aviation fuel storage and supply facilities, with the aim of reducing historical losses in that operation».
The text released by the entity explains that “Fancap chose the path of extreme measures to prevent the execution of a decision of the company that was communicated in August of last year and that this year, days before being implemented, was postponed as a sign of goodwill. At the request of the Pit-Cnt in a meeting with the Dinatra, and in order to establish a different framework for dialogue with the new leadership of the union, Ancap agreed not to make a decision before September 15. The Directory finally resolved on October 28.
In August 2021, Ancap publicly announced the decision to stop operating the aerofuel plants governed by contracts from 2014 in Laguna del Sauce and earlier in the case of Carrasco. “Just a few days ago, Famcap presented a partial reorganization proposal that was manifestly inconvenient, since it maintains an economic loss for Ancap and bases its financing on increasing fuel prices.” adds the statement.
Being an international airport requires aircraft service 24×7 and, with the agreement reached with its concessionaire, Ancap will continue to supply fuel and airport personnel will be in charge of operations to supply aircraft, both airlines regular as private flights. Exceptionally during the pandemic, airport staff covered half of the service time.
The officials will be reassigned to other tasks, three of them in Terminal del Este and a fourth will go on to perform tasks in the land transport of fuels.
