The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonia Urrejolamet this Wednesday with the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Joseph Borrell. After the meeting, the Secretary of State said that she hopes that Chile will close the modernization of the trade agreement with the EU in November.
“The team of the Undersecretary for International Economic Relations has continued to work and we are very hopeful that in November we will close the agreement,” said Urrejola after the dialogue with Borrell, within the framework of the 39th session of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), which takes place in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
“We are looking at the different dates to continue advancing in the last details, but I am sure that between now and the end of November we will be ready,” added the chancellor.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said that both authorities addressed “the challenges that arise in Latin America and Europe, highlighting the importance of advancing jointly in constructive responses that focus on strengthening democracy and respect for human rights to achieve societies fairer”.
Let us remember that Chile signed in 2002, under the Government of Ricardo Lagos, the agreement with the EU. Its ratification was scheduled for this year.
