The Argentine pope received seminarians and religious studying in Rome on Monday and asked him numerous questions on various topics, from the reconciliation of science and faith, to how to live virtuously.
When asked about the use of social networks, the pontiff took the opportunity to warn against the consumption of “digital pornography.”
“Each one of you, think about whether you have had the experience or the temptation of digital pornography. He is a vice that many people have, so many laymen, so many laywomen, and even priests and nuns,” the pope said.
“It is something that weakens the soul. The devil enters through there: it weakens the heart of the priest. And I’m not talking about criminal porn, like child abuse, but ‘normal’ porn,” he explained.
“The pure heart, the one that receives Christ every day, cannot receive this pornographic information. And if you can remove it from your phone, do it, so you won’t have the temptation “in hand, continued the pontiff.
The pope has already condemned pornography several times, most recently in June.
“We are talking about the scourge of pornography, which is currently everywhere,” he said, receiving family associations.
On that occasion, he said that porn is a “permanent attack on the dignity of men and women” and asked the authorities to declare it a “threat to public health.”
