Aguilera on the PISA Test: “Teachers receive the best salaries than the rest of Latin America and we receive the worst education”

The former Minister of Security, Rodolfo Aguilera, spoke this Monday on Radio Panama about the PISA tests and the failure rates in mathematics and English, presented by some students in the country.

«I have always claimed in networks and media that the middle class pays taxes and expects to receive a good quality public education service from the State, but the services provided by the State are of such poor quality that in the end the middle class has to pay a private education that costs thousands of dollars and additional, we pay the State to give us an education that is useless, “said Aguilera.

He indicated that in our country, teachers’ salaries are 1,200.00 dollars, while in the rest of Latin America they are 400.00 – 600.00 dollars per month; however, in the PISA Test we scored in the last places.

«The PISA test does not lie. We are the worst qualified country in Latin America along with the Dominican Republic, so we pay the best salaries and receive the worst education », he added.
