Challenges of investment and public spending on water and sanitation in Paraguay

By assuming the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as its own, the Paraguay has committed to achieving universal and equitable access to drinking water and adequate sanitation and hygiene for all people by the year 2030. Improving water and sanitation services -both in coverage and quality- requires greater investment and more efficiency in the use of available resources, which implies investment planning and coordination between the public and private actors that participate in the provision of the service.

and the Citizen Observatory of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (OCASH) call for a virtual dialogue on “The challenges of investment and public spending on water and sanitation in Paraguay”, to be held next Wednesday, October 26, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. hs.

The The objective of this meeting is to make visible the challenges to optimize investment and public spending for the water, sanitation and hygiene sector, in order to reduce gaps in access to services, ensure good management and guarantee their sustainability. The engineer Hugo Ruiz, Director of Potable Water and Sanitation (DAPSAN) of the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC); Facundo Salinas, Director of Public Investment of the Ministry of Finance; Catalina Ramírez, Specialist in Water and Sanitation of the World Bank; and Alcides Riveros, Mayor of the Municipality of Fernando de la Mora.

From the diagnosis of the current situation, The dialogue will seek to define criteria for a future financing policy that allows the entire population access to drinking water service at an affordable price.as well as the sanitary sewage service and wastewater treatment.
