The Minister Secretary General of the Government, Camila Vallejo, referred this morning to the tense episode that President Gabriel Boric starred in last Thursday in the framework of the National Small Business Meeting, organized by Conapyme. In this regard, the spokeswoman assured that it was a “lack of respect”, and that there was a private apology from Rafael Cumsille to the President, after being accused of “enclosing” the country’s first authority, and that he resigned at your expense after what happened.
Supporting the President, who in the context of this controversial meeting demanded respect from one of the attendees who interrupted his speech, Vallejo said in his participation in the program National statethat “whether it was a trap or not, when one invites the highest authority of the country, it is unfortunate that instances are generated to make the guest uncomfortable, and the President of the Republic must be respected. It was a lack of respect, without room for doubts, and I am grateful that there have been instances of private reflection and apology regarding that, and it is something that cannot be repeated”.
For her part, the spokeswoman also referred to the criticism that the Government received from some sectors of the left for the police deployment in the context of the third anniversary of the social outbreak, where, for example, the mayor of Recoleta, Daniel Jadue “, recently assured that “the repression is still intact”, compared to the management of former President Sebastián Piñera.
In the face of such criticism, Vallejo assured that “in these cases it is important to make objective comparisons and not to be left with only a video that is broadcast on social networks and see the background and relation to police procedures,” adding that in his opinion, “the urgent is not disconnected from the structural. The best way to collaborate is to sit down and talk. This is for all the actors who are participating in the Government and who have a transforming vocation”.
In addition, regarding the security crisis in the country, and the criticism from different opposition sectors that the account of the current authorities has been permissive and not drastic enough to condemn acts of violence, the minister of the General Secretariat of Government (Segegob), assured that it is not correct to link the security crisis with social protest. For her part, she referred to the controversial Tweets of various government authorities, published mainly during the social outbreak, where they questioned the actions of the Carabineros. Faced with this, Vallejo pointed out that “learning is one you have to have more background before issuing an opinion.”
In this regard, he added that “I believe that we have been in a false dichotomy for a long time, where it is believed that, in order to defend and promote respect for human rights, one is weak in condemning and combating crime (…) One thing is the demonstration and social protest claiming substantive solutions to structural problems in our country, and another thing are events that have been systematic over time, that do not have to do only with the social explosion, that are mainly characterized by the intention to commit crimes, and that is reprehensible”.
Finally, and when asked about the situation in the South Macrozone, after the Arauco Malleco Coordinator (CAM) recently claimed responsibility for the arson attack on a Forestal Arauco camp in La Unión, Minister Vallejo assured that it continues to be a One of the Government’s priorities is trying to find a solution to the conflict between the State of Chile and the Mapuche people, for which he confirmed that President Boric will visit the Araucanía region this year, although he did not want to confirm the deadlines for this long-awaited trip be concreted.
