The pink balloons launched into the sky, in the midst of the buzzing noises that the Florida Municipal Corporation (Comudef) in different sectors of the commune, symbolize the memory of those women who have lost their lives due to breast cancer. At the same time, this staging reflects the hope with which this disease can be faced, which, if detected early from prevention, can be left behind and overcome.
In this framework, after five buzzing of awareness against breast cancer, from the Florida Board of Health, accounted for 4,000 female attendees, which accounts for the interest aroused by the “Let’s Dance Together” campaign, whose ingredients of dance, music and entertainment, give the conference an unmistakable seal of joy. Just last Wednesday, to the parking lots of the Mall Plaza Vespuciothey arrived 1,000 participantsespecially because of the relevance of the activity and because, on October 19, the “International Day of the fight against breast cancer” was commemorated throughout the planet.
Moreover, in the presence of the mayor of the Municipality of Florida, Rodolfo Carter, the general secretary of the Comudef, Janett Fernández, indicated that “today we remember the women who lost their lives due to breast cancer. From the emotion and with great joy, we tell you: take your time for the mammography exam. They will have a prior check-up in the place where we are performing the zumbathons through a health professional.
Since these operations began 12 days ago, 121 women have been treated, that is, they have undergone a mammography exam. Likewise, 79 were scheduled with one hour and another 70 more will be enlisted. These numbers will continue to increase, given that other zumbathons are still scheduled, for which more people will have access to their respective check-up through the mobile gynecological clinic of La Florida, a unit that, since 2014, totals more than 33 thousand mammography exams.
“We are not alone”
On Wednesday, hundreds of women in Florida sent a powerful signal. “When we are together, with joy, with enthusiasm, we are able to show the world that we are not alone. Breast cancer affects us all! Take the exam, for you, for me, for all of us”, exclaimed Janett Fernández, in a clear allusion to the impact of this initiative.
In turn, the mayor of Florida, Rodolfo Carter, remarked that “the protagonists are women. We have to be with you before, during and after any serious contingency. Not just being late when we have already detected the cancer”. Many people affected by this disease suffer the loss of one or both breasts. “That’s why we also support them through the breast reconstruction program,” added Carter.
Patricia Arcos (52), belongs to the Villa Perú sector in La Florida and yesterday participated in the Zumbatón in the parking lot of Mall Plaza Vespucio. She valued the day, mainly because of the incentive to get preventive exams against cancer. “One always falls into a routine and playing sports is great. I’m going to get a free mammogram. It’s a great thing, especially if some people don’t have as many resources. And the activity of the zumbathon was great, “said the woman.
