The general director of Carabineros, Ricardo Yáñez, met with the Minister of Economy, Nicolás Grau, and the Minister of Women and Gender Equity, Antonia Orellana, after a series of old tweets that the authorities wrote against the uniformed police.
Last Friday, Grau clarified some messages that he published on his social networks between October 2020 and February 2021, where he criticized Carabineros. “Criminal and murderous pacos. The people have every right to hate them,” he wrote.
After the meeting, Yáñez stated that they talked “about the challenges in terms of security, along with strengthening channels of communication and trust.”
“As an institution, we receive your support and endorsement for our professional work,” added the general director, adding that the government authorities “were able to talk with our police officers and learn in depth about their various functions, their responsibilities, and the tasks they carry out on a daily basis to deliver security to citizens.
“It was a meeting with a view to the future, for social peace and security in Chile,” he said.
