The journalist and former Minister of Mining of the first government of former President Michelle Bachelet, Karen Poniachik, died at the age of 57 in unknown circumstances until now.
Poniachik was a key figure in Chile’s entry into the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and currently served as director of the Global Center at Columbia University and other companies.

Poniachik was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 35 years old. After beating the disease through radiation treatment, she was told to wait five or six years for her to become a mother, which she finally did at the age of 44.
