The fires on the islands of the Paraná River at the height of the Buenos Aires city of St nicolasintensified this long weekend, and this Tuesday they continue to be active, so they warned that this Thursday due to the action of the wind, the smoke could invade Rosario.

This was warned to Télam by the member of the environmental organization The Paraná is not touched, Paul Singer.

“The burnings intensified this long weekend on islands located at the height of the Buenos Aires towns of San Nicolás and Ramallo,” he specified.

For his part, the director of the Environmental Observatory of the National University of Rosario (A R), Matias De Buenoagreed with the environmentalist and said that there are active foci in the wetland in front of San Nicolás and Ramallo.

“In our region there were small undetectable burns this long weekendbut at the height of San Nicolás and Ramallo, and even as far as Zárate, important fires were registered on the islands”, said De Bueno, in dialogue with Channel 3 of Rosario.

The official added that “the fire that occurs at the height of San Nicolás, comprises approximately 2,500 hectares” and that In that area “there was practically no peace during all this time with the burning on the islands.”

“If the brigade members manage to control this fire, we can be calm, otherwise, it is likely that this Thursday and due to the rotation of the wind, the population of Rosario will be affected again by the smoke,” he warned.

Well, he said, besides that also in recent days fires have been recorded in the Paraná islands, in front of the city of Santa Fe.

“There was a fairly important fire source there and in a very populated area, although for the moment it is controlled, thanks to the work of brigadistas from Santa Fe and Entre Ríos,” he stressed.

In another order, a group of environmentalists from El Paraná No se Toca, visited the wetland area in front of the Santa Fe town of Puerto General San Martín, where last week it was reported that bulldozers were destroying the native forest.

“Despite the fact that the work of the bulldozers was stopped, the machines are still there, in an area located very far inside the wetland, but close to a Police Station,” spokesmen for that environmental group told Télam.

And they pointed out that to move these machines “the only way is on board a barge and through the Careaga creek. That is to say, it happened in front of the eyes of the whole world and despite the injunction of a Federal judge that prevents the entry of machines into the wetland”.
