However, during the campaign for the municipal chair, the popular ‘Porky’ made a promise regarding his salary as mayor of the capital.
Rafael López Aliaga: “I’m going to charge 10 soles, I’m not interested in money”
In an interview granted to Latina on September 16, Lopez Aliaga He stated that he was not interested in money and mentioned that, if he won in the elections, he would receive a symbolic salary.
“I have entered to serve my people, I do not want to receive a salary, I want to receive something symbolic. Only 10 soles so they don’t take me out of the electoral race, but I’m not interested in money. I am going to work for the people and rescue the concept of politics, which is so frowned upon in our country“, he claimed.
This was not the first time that he had similar claims, as he also made it on September 28. On that occasion, he also before the Latina cameras, but after a campaign rally: “I am going to require a salary, well, brother, I’m going to charge 10 soles, because I’m not interested. I come to serve my people, I’m sick of conventional politicians”.
It is important to mention that, despite these statements, since he won the mayor’s office, the Renovación Popular candidate has not mentioned that possible salary reduction again.
López Aliaga and the time he promised to donate his presidential salary
It should be remembered that during the 2021 presidential campaign, Rafael Lopez Aliaga promised to donate his salary as president. “When I am president of Peru I will not receive a single salary, I will donate everything to charitable organizations,” he wrote on his social networks.
However, on that occasion the National Elections Jury (JNE) temporarily excluded him from the contest, since he violated article 42 of the Political Organizations Law (LOP), which indicates that “the promise, or the gift that exceeds 2 Tax Units, the applicable legal consequence is the exclusion of the candidate”.
