Continuing to strengthen epidemiological surveillance, maintaining hygienic-sanitary measures with maximum discipline, and increasing self-responsibility and individual and collective awareness, continue to be the keys to face the increase in COVID-19 cases that has been reported in recent weeks in the country, insisted the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.
The President of the Republic reiterated the need to comply with all these measures (which are common sense -although there is a lot of science behind them-, but are not always respected), this Saturday morning, in the systematic meetings of the Temporary Group of Government work for the prevention and control of the pandemic.
Díaz-Canel reflected on the behavior of the Ómicron variant in the world, which, due to its characteristics of high transmissibility, although it is not leading to a substantial increase in serious cases and death – at least until now -, requires a new action, as has already been foreseen in the most recent version of the Cuban protocol for confronting the epidemic.
Although several strains circulate in the country, and we have to be very attentive to them, especially the Delta, emphasized the Head of State, it is necessary to continue concentrating on primary care, to achieve a good home entry of people who test positive .
Through videoconference with political and governmental authorities from all the territories, the meeting was led by the Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, who insisted that in the face of the new wave of COVID-19 we cannot lower our guard.
The meeting was attended by Jorge Luis Broche Lorenzo, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Party, and the deputy prime ministers, Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdés Menéndez, Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz and Alejandro Gil Fernández, as well as ministers, ministers and other authorities .
José Ángel Portal Miranda, head of the Ministry of Public Health, reported that this Friday the report of positive cases grew by 11.7 percent and to date there were 974 687 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
Of the people who have fallen ill, 970 684 (99.6 percent) are Cuban, and 98.6 percent have been autochthonous cases. Until January 7, the country accumulated 8,326 deaths from this cause, for a fatality of 0.85 percent during the epidemic.
