Fernando Haddad, PT candidate for the government of the state of São Paulo, highlighted today (7) the process of installing the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp) in the city of Guarulhos (SP), in 2007. Haddad recalled the mobilization of the municipality to receive the educational institution when he was Minister of Education.
“Guarulhos fought hard for this university. There was a lot of mobilization from the social movement of Guarulhos to bring Unifesp here.”, he said in the city of the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo.
The candidate reiterated that, if elected governor, he will guarantee university autonomy in the Constitution and will also restore the credibility of Brazilian higher education. “I am going to constitutionalize it precisely to prevent institutions from future threats to higher education in Brazil,” he said. “We are going to rely on the knowledge produced by them to recover the state of São Paulo and Brazil,” he added.
Haddad took a walk this morning in Guarulhos to the candidate’s side to the Presidency of the Republic by the PT, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
