The Minister of Public Health, Daniel Salinasattended this Friday the reopening of the Paraguayan embassy in Uruguay, an event in which the presidents participated Luis Lacalle Pou and Mario Abdo Benitez as well as former president Luis Alberto Lacalle Herrera.
During the event, the minister approached the journalists and joked with the reasons for his resignation, which have been the subject of political discussion.
“You can consult her,” he said in reference to his wife, Grace Sotowho was accompanying him. The woman, laughing, confessed that she was the one who “doesn’t want any more” to continue leading the MSP.
Salinas announced Tuesday that he will resign from MSP in March for “family reasons”. On Monday he had a meeting with the senator and leader of Cabildo Abierto, Guido Manini Riosto inform him of the decision and on Tuesday he transmitted it to Lacalle Pou.
Although he began to analyze the possibility several months ago, it was resolved a few days before traveling to the Pan American Sanitary Conference in Washington at the end of September, an instance in which he applied –unsuccessfully– to be the new director general of PAHO.
Salinas transmitted to collaborators and relatives “personal reasons” to support the decision. He told them that in these three years he was “very demanding” because he dedicated himself body and soul to the task, something that caused him a “great wear”, and that it is time to give a “minimum of care” to the body and the mind.
“I always felt 95% medical and now I have a horizon to round off my activity. These three years have been worth nine and they were also a great sacrifice for my family. It is time to round off the performance in a firm and orderly manner,” he said Tuesday.
The president of the Broad Front, Ferdinand Pereirahad said that the resignation was not due to family reasons, something that provoked a response from the minister who considered that this reading was not correct.
