The Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, and his counterpart for Education, Jaime Perczyk, received the support of the rectors who make up the National Interuniversity Council (CIN) to the 2023 Budget, which contemplates 90% increases for operating expenses of national universities.
The rectors also valued the “increases of 90% in the items for the development of extension and science and technology programs implemented by universities,” according to the educational portfolio in a statement.
The ministers met with the rectors of national universities throughout the country in a meeting held at the headquarters of the rector of the National Technological University (UTN), in downtown Buenos Aires.
On the occasion, the authorities also highlighted that the budget law contemplate a investment of more than $770,000 million in university infrastructure works, which guarantees the support and financing of the system.
It also includes “the items for the financing of university hospitals, the promotion of strategic careers, the strengthening of university extension and the development of technological institutes”.
On the occasion, Perczyk assured that “it is very important that we have a budget and that it reflects what the universities that are a priority for us need”.
For its part, Massa rstressed that “the university system is one of the strongest and most important tools that Argentina has as a country that provides talent and recognition at a regional level”.
“I ask Congress to give universities and all sectors of the economy a Budget as soon as possible,” he added.
While, the head of the CIN and rector of the Universidad del Litoral, Enrique Mammarella He assured that “we appeal to the economy next year to take into account a university system that continues to grow and that is inclusive, in line with what has been the policy carried out by the Minister of Education.”
At the same time, the rector of the UTN and host of the meeting, Rubén Soroindicated that “from the university system we want to thank all the effort and commitment to guarantee the functioning of our universities”.
The project sent to the Chamber of Deputies by the national government is similar to the one prepared by the National Interuniversity Council (CIN) and presented to the Ministry of Education, the letter stressed.
