MADRID, Spain.- “Cuba is better than the Maldives”, said this Wednesday the Cuban Tourism Councilor for Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Georgia, Juan Carlos Escalona, during a meeting with businessmen from the Kazakh tourism sector at the Embassy of Cuba in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan.
In his attempt to promote the island as a tourist destination, the minister pointed out that the country has “a sea of impressions” to offer Kazakhs.
In statements to the Spanish news agency EFE, Escalona stated that “Kazakhstan and Cuba are linked by very old ties.”
“We want to take this opportunity so that Kazakh tourists can visit our country,” he added.
Just as he recalled that before the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 10,000 Kazakh tourists visited the Island.
“Then the pandemic came and stopped everything, but we were convinced that the number would increase,” he considered.
Juan Carlos Escalona also explained that tourists from Kazakhstan can reach Cuba through European countries such as Germany, France and Spain, since the airlines of these nations have regular flights to Cuba.
He also specified that Turkish airlines have three weekly flights to the country.
For his part, the Cuban ambassador in Astana, Oscar Santana León, told Efe that “after the pandemic, many Kazakhs begin to travel to Cuba” and that the number of visitors is expected to continue to increase.
In its efforts to boost the tourism sector, the Cuban government has been promoting Cuba as a destination in different countries.
this very week spread the advertising identity “Cuba Única” during the Hola Mundo Mua event, based in Shanghai, China.
The previous week, the Cuban travel agency Cubatur made a tour to also promote the “Cuba Única” campaign through the Argentine cities of Córdoba, Mendoza, Rosario and Buenos Aires.
