“The document has been manipulated to create a situation that has never existed,” said the president in a statement on his social networks.

Yoni Vásquez Castillo and the “material error”
In response to criticism, Defense Minister Daniel Barragán maintained that the data presented in the document constituted a “material error”.

According to Barragán, “Lay Vásquez Castillo” is the product of having written by hand the name of the younger brother of the fugitive Fray Vásquez, Yoni Vásquez Castillo. Error that was incurred when typing said name, and that could be verified with the passenger manifest of the flight back to Lima.
