César Zamora will continue as “acting president” in the absence of Michael Healy, reports Cosep

Cosep “prays” for its imprisoned members who rot in jail

The Superior Council of Private Enterprise (Cosep) re-elected businessman César Zamora as its first vice president, who will continue as “acting president” due to the absence of Michael Healy as president-elect of the business association.

Since last October 25, 2021, Zamora has occupied the presidential chair of the main chamber of businessmen in the country’s private sector, before the “arbitrary” arrest of businessmen Michael Healy and Álvaro Vargas, president and vice president, respectively of Cosep during the period 2021-2022.

In a releaseCosep reported that this Wednesday, September 28 “in a special session of the Board of Directors, the business union authorities were elected with the presence of their members for the period 2022-2023.”

The leadership of the business association was structured as follows: César Augusto Zamora Hinojos, first vice president; James Scott Vaughn, Second Vice President; Evess Yasmín Ruíz García, third vice president; Dean Alexander Garcia Foster, secretary; Reynaldo Antonio Gómez González, treasurer; and Ramiro Gurdián Ortiz, prosecutor.

Likewise, COSEP highlighted that the businessman César Zamora assumed the position of acting president of the entity. “This procedure was ratified in accordance with the provisions of the COSEP Statutes, which establish that in the absence of its elected president (Michael Healy), it is the first vice president who assumes the position,” the statement read.

Zamora, defender of the corporatist model

The “acting president” of Cosep is a staunch defender of the corporatist model that private companies maintained for 11 years under the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo. That “agreement” with the regime allowed them to nominate businessmen for public office, the creation of laws in their favor, exemption and exemption from taxes, among many other benefits.

César Zamora will continue as "acting president" in the absence of Michael Healy, reports Cosep

César Zamora is known for being one of the partners and defenders of the business of the private company with the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo. As a result of the rupture of the businessmen’s alliance with Daniel Ortega, the new leader has kept a low profile and throughout this period from 2018 to date, he has not spoken out against the regime or the current situation in the country.

The only time that Cosep, under the command of Zamora, has ruled on the cases of José Adán Aguerri, Michael Healy and Álvaro Vargas, was at the end of October 2021, a week after they were locked up.
