Euro zone banks face growing risks until 2023

The sanctions of Western countries imposed on Russia for the invasion have collapsed various economic sectors and affected the population. Also before the Ukrainian reconquest of 8,500 occupied km2, the Russians fled in disarray. More than 150,000 Ukrainians have been liberated from the occupation and also almost 400 population settlements.

Three obsessions of power in the last century were the following: the entry of the United States into the Vietnam War decided in its initial stages by the government of President Eisenhower. The withdrawal after various negotiations was made by President Nixon. Yet another was the invasion of Iraq carried out by the government of President George Bush Jr. The exit was carried out by President Obama, leaving the country desolate. Another one was in Afghanistan and the withdrawal was made by President Biden, leaving chaos and the Taliban in power. The heads of government that started them were not the same as those that ended them.

A similar experience could happen with the invasion of Ukraine by President Putin of Russia, which has created animosity inside and outside his country. 70,000 Russian soldiers have died, two-thirds of those who were on the border, ready for the invasion. There are 85 councilors and leaders who have signed the petition to the DUMA to promote Putin’s resignation. The exodus of Russians is being experienced due to the probability of being recruited and they are crossing the borders of Finland and Georgia. There are also massive street demonstrations in Moscow against the government and 1,300 people have been arrested.

The invasion has untied the national knots of the European countries that are suffering from collateral effects and have shown solidarity with Ukraine. Europe recognizes that it made the mistake of dependence on oil and fossil fuels with Russia. Now the European Commission has approached other supplier countries such as the United States, Norway and Algeria.

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, in her annual State of the Union address a week ago in the European Parliament, emphasized the decision to strengthen trade policy with Western Balkan countries such as Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia. She also reported that the trade agreement with Chile, Mexico and New Zealand will be ratified.

He also made a reflection of political precision: “We have to update our links with reliable countries and with the main growth regions…. This watershed moment in world politics calls for a rethinking of our foreign policy agenda…. The European Union must defend itself from autocrats and their toxic lies.”

In the economy, the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russian invasion have contributed to the increase in world prices.

European countries are organizing to support their citizens and companies due to rising costs. This is also because a “winter of discontent over war, inflation and inequality” is coming, as António Guterres, Secretary General of the UN, pointed out at the opening of the 76th United Nations General Assembly.

As long as the invasion continues, inflationary pressures will continue. According to World Bank studies, this threatens a global recession next year. For the time being, a global slowdown can be seen in the third quarter of this year.
