The journalist Gabriel Pereyra denounced this Sunday that he was the subject of monitoring and surveillance by the Police, while the Ministry of the Interior assured that this is not the case.
Pereyra assured on his social networks that the third head of the Police Intelligence Service ordered “surveillance and monitoring” tasks towards him. Likewise, he signed that both President Luis Lacalle Pou and the Minister of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heber, disclaimed responsibility after the journalist informed them about the events. “I never mistrusted them,” he added.
There is no persecution, assured Santiago González
The director of Coexistence and Citizen Security of the Ministry of the Interior, Santiago González, assured this Sunday that the portfolio did not order what was denounced by the communicator.
«I spoke with Gabriel (Pereyra) yesterday and today. There is not, there was not, nor will there be any persecution, or any follow-up, or anything that resembles that of a journalist, a worker, “said the hierarch in conversation with Radio Montecarlo.
«We do it with criminals when we try to catch them, never a journalist. Therefore, the journalist Gabriel Pereyra knows – the Minister of the Interior himself also told him – that there is no such activity; Obviously, it is necessary to clarify the case because it is a very important title and it is information that came to him », he emphasized.
The director stressed that this “does not happen” and announced that investigation tasks will be initiated in this regard. “All the facts that come to the ministry are investigated and this one is not going to be any different,” he said.
“There is nothing that has been requested and there is no one doing what they told the journalist Pereyra,” González summarized.
