Sisters of Charity lay the first stone where they will build a foundation in Costa Rica

The Missionaries of Charity, who were expelled from Nicaragua by order of the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, together with priest Harvey Flores, laid the first stone on the land where they will build the home in Cañas, Costa Rica.

“We want to share with you the happiness we had (…) Priest Harvey Flores blessed the land on which they will build the House of the Missionary Sisters of La Caridad in Cañas, Guanacaste, where they will help all those people with limited resources,” communicated the Facebook page, Diocese of Tilarán-Liberia.

After the Ortega regime expelled this group of nuns on July 6, Monsignor Manuel Eugenio Salazar, bishop of the Diocese of Tilarán in Liberia, Costa Rica, received them and blessed them in their work. Two weeks after their arrival in the neighboring country, they announced that they would create a foundation, which would contemplate evangelization and assistance to the poor.

“Let us pray for the path that the Sisters are about to start in our Diocese, so that they never lack bread and can help all those who need it,” wrote the Diocese of Tilarán-Liberia this Thursday.

The sisters of the order created by Mother Teresa of Calcutta worked in Nicaragua in the Missionary Sisters of Charity Association. They were removed from Nicaragua after the cancellation of legal personality. The non-governmental organization (NGO) was part of the list of 101 associations that were outlawed on June 29 by the Sandinista deputies before the National Assembly.

Days after their expulsion, the sisters told the Italian news agency Servizio de Informazione Religiosa (SIR), that their departure took them “by surprise”. “We had to quickly leave our houses. We never did any kind of political activity. We left with a great pain in our hearts, leaving our poor there”.
