With a day of activities and choreographic presentations, performances and exhibitions, the Holguin contemporary dance company Codanza will celebrate its 30th anniversary on September 25.
Its director, Maricel Godoy, said that this event is dedicated in a special way to the renowned artist from Holguin, Cosme Proenza, who recently passed away. He was, she underlined, “a very close artist and accomplice in Codanza’s projects, including the choreography ‘Year Zero’, which honored the fifty years of the painter, sculptor and engraver through the series ‘Boscomanias’.
Among the activities for the date are the exhibitions “Codanza, the living spirit of fire”, a retrospective of posters that includes the majority of works presented by the Company, and which will have as its space the main room of the Provincial Center of Plastic Arts.
Likewise, the photographic exhibition “Memories of a Festival” will be inaugurated in the lobby of the Eddy Suñol Theater Cultural Complex. It reviews with images the five editions of the Codanza North Atlantic Dance Contest and Vladimir Malakhov Grand Prix, as well as the meeting, in 2014, of this star of the World Ballet with the people of Holguin.
Godoy highlighted the training role of the company in new generations of artists and its link with the academy. During the day, a special moment will be, he said, the presentation of a performance performed by Codanza and by middle-level students of Music and Plastic Arts in the surroundings of Calixto García Park.
Founded on September 25, 1992 in Holguín, the company is considered by critics to be one of the best Cuban stage groups. He has toured countries such as Spain, Mexico, Venezuela, Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
