One person dies from Hantavirus in Veraguas

The first case and death from Hantavirus this year in Veraguas was confirmed this Thursday by the Department of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health in the province.

The Deputy Minister of Health Ivette Berrío reiterated that the Minsa maintains the measures and surveillance in the province and throughout the country.

“Indeed, a death from Hantavirus has been confirmed, the local epidemiologists provided care, they have done the investigation, this case was reported at the central level and of course we are taking epidemiological measures to avoid another event like this,” said Deputy Minister Berrío.

Heidy Núñez, regional coordinator of Epidemiology of the Social Security Fund, indicated that this is a 25-year-old patient from the village of La Soledad in the district of Soná, she was treated at the Ezequiel Abadía Hospital in the district of Soná, where an autopsy was performed and the evidence was taken and sent to the Gorgas Memorial Institute, which certified the case.

Hantavirus is a zoonotic disease transmitted by rodents, its symptoms include fever, gastrointestinal disorders and respiratory distress; We urge the population of Veragüense to strengthen prevention and control measures to avoid this disease, such as preserving grains in a sealed manner and cleaning these areas by first spraying water and wearing a mask is important to avoid absorbing dust that may have urine from rodents.
