MINSA recommends practicing safe sex and avoiding having sex with multiple partners: case 13 of monkeypox is confirmed

The Department of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health of Panama (MINSA) announced this Monday morning the thirteenth (13) case of monkeypox or monkey, which is registered in the country.

This is a 35-year-old Panamanian man, who had close contact with people of Panamanian nationality prior to September 8 and started symptoms with a not well-defined skin lesion, which was treated as folliculitis, later symptoms such as fever, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes in the neck and lesions in various parts of his body such as vesicles, pustules and scabs, the report said.

“On September 17, he goes to a health facility, seeking medical care, samples are taken and sent to the Gorgas Memorial Institute for processing, resulting in monkeypox detection. The patient is stable and meets all the requirements to perform quarantine at home,” added the governing health body.

MINSA reiterated that the transmission of monkeypox is spread from person to person, it can be caused by skin lesions, from one infected person to another, respiratory and body fluids; and also through infected clothing or any surface that has had contact with the lesions.

In addition, he recommended practicing safe sex and avoiding having sex with multiple partners, because worldwide the data reported by the WHO indicate that the majority of cases are men, 93% of cases are between 25 and 45 years old, being a One of the main routes of transmission is close contact during sexual intercourse.
