According to Espacio Público records, Conatel closed 20 radio stations in Venezuela between January and September of this year 2022. Nine of these measures occurred on September 6 in the municipalities of Maracaibo and San Francisco in Zulia state.

The National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel) closed five radio stations this Wednesday, September 14, in Cumaná, Sucre state, in eastern Venezuela. The Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Espacio Público reported that it was Café 100.9 FM, Radio NVH 102.1 FM, Cool FM, Radio Boom and Mágica FM.

At the moment the reasons are unknown. “In the case of Café 100.9 FM, an official named Anabella González demanded that the transmitters be turned off to ‘avoid an administrative procedure and confiscation of equipment,’ detailed Espacio Público on Twitter.

According to association records, Conatel closed 20 radio stations in Venezuela between January and September of this year 2022. Nine of these measures occurred on September 6 in the Maracaibo and San Francisco municipalities of Zulia state.

They were KP 92.9 FM, Río Stereo 107.7 FM, Sensacional Stereo 88.5 FM, Word 97.3 FM, Zulia Mía 91.3 FM, Refugio 94.3 FM, Radiolandia 103.3 FM, High Class 98.1 FM and Destino 98.3 FM.

The organization also acted in Maturín, Monagas state, against the radio stations Sabrosa 94.5 FM and Mix FM on August 5. What was the argument? Supposedly, they broadcast music and entertainment programs without permission.

For its part, the National Union of Press Workers reported the disqualification of three stations in Cojedes state on July 15: Hits 92.5 FM, Nex 100.1 FM and Moda 105.1 FM.

The measure was also carried out by members of the National Guard. Conatel argued that the stations illegally used the radioelectric space and that they did not have transmission permits.

The Public Space Civil Association denounced that this type of act violates the right of citizens to be informed and, in addition, violates the right to work.
