The Director of Immunizations of the Ministry of Health (Minsa), Maria Elena Martinezreported this Tuesday that the sector is evaluating the possibility of applying an annual dose of the COVID-19 vaccineas a reinforcement mechanism for the population.
In a dialogue with Radio Exitosa, the Minsa official said that, although they have not thought of applying a fifth dose against COVID-19later we could talk about a proposal for annual reinforcement.
“We are not thinking of a fifth dose; however, the committee of advisory experts that make the reviews, as well as the National Institute of Health (INS), we are going to see how it is behaving [la pandemia]”, he explained on Monday, September 12.
“We are entering a plateau in this fourth wave and we don’t know what can continue to happen. Probably, we could go to an annual dose, but that is not yet indicated or recommended in the country”, pointed out the head of Immunizations of the Ministry of Health.
Martínez called on all citizens to go for the fourth dose against COVID-19. He indicated that all people over 18 years of age can go to the vaccination centers to receive this fourth application if five months have passed since the application of the third dose.
“Nearly 73% of young people already have the third dose, which is why we are inviting them to receive the fourth dose,” he added.
Vaccination figures
In a latest report, the Health sector reported that until Tuesday, September 13, the number of people vaccinated against COVID-19 with at least one dose amounts to 29,837,383. Meanwhile, the total of citizens vaccinated with two doses is 28,164,966.
Likewise, the number of citizens to whom the third dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 amounts to 20,544,313. while with fourth dose is reported at 4,515,043 inoculated people.
