The Minister of the Presidency, Joel Santospointed out yesterday that the challenge that the Dominican economy has in the medium term to grow 7% annually, brings as a consequence the need to increase production of agricultural items, so it is a challenge that the sector must take on. He specified that the Dominican Republic It has a tourism sector that is also set to grow significantly, so agricultural production must increase to meet that demand.
“We have a tourism sector that consumes, according to the last study carried out, more than US$800 million of agricultural products,” he explained. Despite the challenges, Santos assured that the government is making tangible efforts so that technology and innovation transform the different economic sectors of the country, especially the agricultural sector. He said that this is the key for the country to develop its economy and society in an inclusive and sustained manner.
