Global Barometers Signal Improvement in Early 2022

Brazil’s Economic Climate Index (ECI) dropped 8.2 points in the third quarter of the year, compared to the previous quarter. ICE seeks to monitor and anticipate economic trends, based on information provided quarterly by experts in the economies of their respective countries.

The drop was below that observed in the Latin American average, which reached 12.6 points. In the transition from the second to the third quarter, Brazil had the fourth best performance, among the ten countries surveyed, behind Paraguay (up 9.9 points), Bolivia (1.7 points) and Ecuador (down 1 .6 point).

With the drop, the ICE reached 54.5 points, on a scale of zero to 200 points, a result below the average for the region (54.7 points). Brazil had the fifth worst result, ahead of Argentina (25.8 points), Chile (36.2), Mexico (48.7) and Peru (49.7).

Brazil’s result in the third quarter was lower than those recorded by Uruguay (122.6 points), Paraguay (101.1), Colombia (72.6), Ecuador (70.5) and Bolivia (67.6 points).

The drop in the ICE in Brazil was driven by the Expectations Index, which seeks to show the opinion of specialists in relation to the future, which dropped 33.3 points.

The Present Situation Index, which shows the opinion of experts in relation to the present, on the other hand, rose 12.9 points and reached 42.9 points. Brazil was one of the three countries in the region that showed improvement.

The survey also asked experts whether they considered that Brazil was facing problems in the supply of inputs and raw materials. Of those interviewed, 13.3% said yes, seriously, while 66.7% answered yes, but moderately.
